Around 2003 with the help of a videographer I had videos made of a child, Shareen, from my village in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu. The child normally walked around barefoot. Unfortunately the video, made on tape was damaged. This is a record of stills made from this video. Three movements were studied: 1. CHILD BAREFOOT,WEARING FROCK, made to jump on a low wall and then jump down. 2. CHILD WEARING SKIRT (ELASTIC AROUND STOMACH), walking .... initial discomfort is evident. 3. CHILD WEARING SHOES, walking.(She ended up marching, without any prompting from onlookers)
